How we built this

What our data covers, where it comes from, and the three things it cannot tell you.

Every fact on this site is derived from a dataset of 585 businesses within 1.2 km of BTS Saphan Khwai station, of which 541 meet our publishing threshold and 529 are currently trading. We hold no review text, no photography and no editorial descriptions, so instead of describing places we compute things about them. Everything below is generated from the dataset at build time, including the numbers on this page.

Data last updated: 2 August 2026

Where the boundary is

The anchor is BTS Saphan Khwai station (13.79377, 100.54971). A place is in scope if it falls within 1.2 km straight-line of that point. Inside that we distinguish two tiers: Tier 1 is the 800 m core (413 places), Tier 2 the 800–1200 m ring (172 places). Pages label Tier 2 entries as outside the core so a reader can tell the difference.

All distances on this site are straight-line, and we say so every time. We have not measured walking routes. Bangkok sois, canals and the BTS overpass mean the real walk is reliably longer than the crow flies; where we show an approximate walking time it is a conservative estimate at 75 m per minute, never a measured route.

What we hold, and how much of it

Field coverage across all 585 in-scope places, 2 August 2026
Field Places Coverage What it means
Opening hours 448 77% Parsed to day-and-hour ranges. Every page that filters on time depends on this.
Phone 458 78% Business contact details, published as supplied.
Rating 312 53% Counting only places with 20+ ratings, the threshold our “highest rated” pages use.
Popular times 137 23% Footfall data, parsed to a busyness curve. Thin, but nobody else publishes it as text.
Website 137 23% Used for outbound links only.
Price band 63 11% Arrived in 12 incompatible formats. Shown where present; we build no price-based pages on it.
Photography 16 3% Effectively zero: see the coverage gaps below.

The three gaps we cannot yet fill

1. There are no photographs

This site launches with no place photography at all. That is why the design is typographic and data-led rather than a grid of picture cards, since we would rather have no images than images that misrepresent a business.

2. There are almost no everyday services

Within the boundary our source data contains no banks, no pharmacies, no clinics and no laundries, one convenience store and two supermarkets. That is an artefact of how the data was collected, not a description of the neighbourhood: Saphan Kwai plainly has pharmacies. The consequence is a rule we hold to: we will not list a category we have no records for, and we will not write a “moving here” guide that pretends to be a directory of services we cannot see.

3. Category counts are counts of our dataset

Our source sampled some categories far more thoroughly than others across the wider district. So when a page says “175 restaurants”, it means 175 in our dataset, not 175 in Saphan Kwai. Wherever that distinction matters, the page says so.

What we have, by category

In-scope places by category, and how many publish opening hours
Category Places With hours
Restaurants 175 157
Coffee 149 130
Massage & spa 75 68
Bars 49 45
Thai food 46 42
Hotels 36 0
Dessert & bakery 33 33
Japanese 21 20
Shopping & markets 21 19

A place can appear in more than one category (a Japanese restaurant is also a restaurant), so these do not sum to 585.

Ratings, and what we do with them

Ratings shown anywhere on this site are ratings recorded on 2 August 2026. They are not our reviews. We have not visited every place we list, we do not reproduce review text, and we never present an aggregate rating as our own verdict. We always show the rating count next to the score, because a 5.0 from six ratings and a 4.5 from four hundred are not comparable.

Our “highest rated” pages require at least 20 ratings and a score of 4.4 or above. Both cuts are arbitrary in the sense that any threshold is, but they are stated, applied mechanically, and identical across every category.

Closures

16 places in the dataset are flagged temporarily closed. They are excluded from every ranked list, but we keep their data rather than deleting it: being the site that tells you somewhere has shut is more useful than quietly pretending it never existed.

Names and spelling

Business names are reproduced exactly as they appear in the source data. Where a business is listed only in Thai script, we show the Thai name; we do not invent romanisations, because a machine transliteration of a shop's name is a fabricated fact about a real business. The area is written “Saphan Kwai” throughout, matching the domain; the station itself is signposted “BTS Saphan Khwai”, and we use that spelling when we mean the station.

Privacy

Email addresses present in the source data are discarded at ingest and appear in no file we publish or retain. We publish business contact details only, never personal data about individuals.

Corrections

Opening hours in Bangkok change often and without notice. If something here is wrong, it is wrong because our snapshot is stale or our source was; either way we want to know. The dataset is rebuilt from source and this page's figures update with it.
